Located in the eastern side of Liuyang River in Changsha City, Langli is one of “the top 10 strangest towns”, “the most charm towns”. It has the population of 30,000, with total area of 34 square kilometers, including 5 villages and 3 communities. The government revenue is 0.21 billion yuan total, and 7,000 RMB per person.
This is an old town with long history. Tao Gong temple was built in Jing Dynasty, and it’s one of the well-preserved “six dynasty left temple” with over 1500 years history till now, dedicated to bodhisattva of Taoheng and Taodan, they’re the nephew and grand nephew of Taokan, who is a well-known person in Jing Dynasty. As one of the earliest Taoist temples in south China, Tao Gong temple is near Liuyang River and Xiangjiang River, and surrounded by old trees. There is an opera house named “ancient building” in it, on a tablet over the building was written “ancient building” by Wend Tonghe, the master of Guangxu Emperor. In every spring and autumn temple fairs, many people will come here, like literati and businessmen, who witness and support long history of Langli culture.
This is an old town with rich culture. There are many old streets built in Wei and Jing Dynasty along Liuyang River side, and colorful walls, wooden house projecting over the river, streets and lanes paved with bluestones, arched bridge, all the constructs formed a history film and recorded the changes of Langli town.
This is a water town with its own characteristics. Langli town located in the east of the seventh bay of Liuyang River, the land is flat here with developed watery system, the rivers and wetland formed a natural scenic spot in south China, especially for the rivers of Lijiang and Huan Yuangang, and protective embankments of Lijiang and Huayuan.
This is also a good fortune town. According to the old legend, Langli Town is a place that can bring wealth and fortune, Yuelu Mountain is in the west and Liuyang River’s bay in the east. While by searching google map, we can see that Tao Gong temple and Yuelu Mountain at the same latitude, the line linked Yuelu Temple and Tao Gong Temple runs parallel with WuYi Road in Changsha city.
This is an economy town with developed industry. History contributes to city culture while culture enriches the city future. In ancient times, Langli town became the center in transportation and salt business of Hunan province relied on convenient water transportation of Liuyang River and Xiangjiang River. While in 1980s, with progress of reform and opening, and the construction of airport expressway, Huangxin Road and Renmin Road, Langli town has accelerated the construction and expanded industry area by 50k square kilometers with a population of 20,000, over 160 enterprises here. In 2009, the industrial output value of the whole town has reached 3.4 billion yuan, ranked first in the whole city.
This is a new town with huge potential. On April of 2010, Changsha municipal government bring Langli town as a pilot town into the plan of urbanization, and quicken urbanization process, it’s a developing cross in thinking, space and new era, and will promote development of Langli town for sure. We’ll implement the requirement and exert the advantages of good location, communication and reputation, seize the chance of urbanization and promote the development strategies, which is fixed one location, achieve two waves drive, promote three shifts, strengthen four concentration, catch five projects and write six construction articles. While quickened industrialization and urbanization process, we need protect the long-history town at the same time. We’ll build this town into a new eco-city zone and provide better service to main urban district
History can be continued only by protection, and future will be shaped by construction. In the time that thinking decides future, the people of Langli hold dreams and look for majoy steps forward.
